Afterschool Schedule

The 2018-2019 REFUGES Afterschool Program runs from September 4, 2018 – May 30, 2019. It includes three program components: 1) a Weekday Program for students in grades 7-12 at the University of Utah 2) a second weekday program for Bryant Middle School students and 3) a Saturday College Prep Program for students in grades 10-12.

Weekday Programs At The University of Utah and Bryant Middle School:

The Weekday Program includes: tutoring from University of Utah math and science students; college and career readiness advice and support (ACT preparation workshops and support with FAFSA, scholarship applications, and college applications); hands-on workshops related to science, math and engineering; field trips; support for healthy development, prevention education, and community involvement; a snack/light meal during program time.

Weekday Program at the University of Utah (grades 7-12)

  • Students in 7-12th grade will meet Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 3:00 – 6:30pm in room 13 and 25 of the Crocker Science Center at the University of Utah (1390 Presidents circle, Salt Lake City, UT 84112).
  • Parents (one parent/guardian for each student) are expected to attend prevention education at the Refugee Education and Training Center (3900 S 250 W). They will meet on four different Saturdays, and each meeting will last one hour.

Weekday Program at Bryant Middle School (grades 7-8)

  • Students in 7-8th grade will meet Monday through Thursday from 3:30 – 5:45pm  and Fridays 1:30pm-4:00pm at Bryant Middle School (40 S 800 E, Salt Lake City UT, 84102)
  • The program operates Monday- Thursday, 3:30pm-5:45pm, and 1:30pm-4:00pm on Fridays. Programming will take place at Bryant Middle School Monday-Wednesday and Friday. On Thursdays, students will be transported to the University of Utah in order to participate in hands-on STEM enrichment activities with researchers and professors at the U. The program runs from February, 2019 – May 30, 2019 with breaks for school holidays .

Saturday Program (grades 10-12):

The Saturday Program includes college preparation activities (ACT preparation workshops and support with FAFSA, scholarship applications, and college applications), support for healthy development, prevention education, and community involvement; a snack/light meal during program time.

  • Students enrolled in the Saturday program will attend activities at the Refugee Education and Training Center (3900 S 250 W) from 2:30-5:30pm on Saturdays.
  • Parents (one parent/guardian for each student) are expected to attend prevention education at the Refugee Education and Training Center (3900 S 250 W). They will meet on four different Saturdays, and each meeting will last one hour.
