Student Work
Every year, students in the REFUGES program participate in a variety of courses ranging from the sciences to the arts. During these courses, students work on course projects to solidify what they have learned and build their portfolios. These projects are the outcome of months of work and research and are archived here on the REFUGES Program website.

High Altitude Balloon Experiment with Dr. Sten Hasselquist (University of Utah Astronomy)
Youth Leadership Council
Twenty-seven youth in the REFUGES after-school program joined the Youth Leadership Council and created three short videos on the topic of body image and racism. This youth-led project was shared with the community with the goal of helping improve teen sexual health in South Salt Lake.

Finding a Refuge in Visualization Project
These animations were a final outcome of outreach efforts by Grace and Janet from the Animation Lab (Dept. of Biochemistry, University of Utah) to bring scientific animation skills to middle and high schoolers. This project was funded by the American Society for Cell Biology through the Science Sandbox, an initiative of the Simons Foundation from June 2020 to 2021.
