The NSF’s Non-Academic Research Internships for Graduate Students (INTERN) Supplemental Funding Opportunity is available in FY 2019 and FY 2020.
- The funding needs to be requested by the PI of an active NSF award.
- The PI can request additional support (up to $55,000) for periods of six months per student.
- The requested funding can be used to support travel, tuition and fees, health insurance, and additional stipend and temporary relocation costs for the student. Up to $2,500 may be used for the PI to travel to work with the host organization in co-mentoring the student during the internship.
- In the case of graduate students with an emphasis in astronomy, this program is only open to doctoral students.
