Afterschool Schedule

The 2016-2017 REFUGES Afterschool Program runs from September 13, 2016 – May 31, 2017. It includes two program components: 1) a Weekday Program for students in grades 7-12 and 2) a Saturday College Prep Program for students in grades 10-12.

Weekday Program (grades 7-12):

The Weekday Program includes: tutoring from University of Utah math and science students; college and career readiness advice and support (ACT preparation workshops and support with FAFSA, scholarship applications, and college applications); hands-on workshops related to science, math and engineering; field trips; support for healthy development, prevention education, and community involvement; a snack/light meal during program time.

  • Students in 7-9th grade will meet Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 3:00 – 6:30pm in room 101 and 102 of the Life Sciences Building at the University of Utah (255 S 1400 E, Salt Lake City, UT 84112). This is the “SYA” program location.
  • Students in 10-12th grade will meet Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 3:00-6:30pm in room 306 and 360 of the Alfred Emery Building at the University of Utah (225 South 1400 East, Salt Lake City, UT 84112). This is the “TRY” program location.
  • Parents (one parent/guardian for each student) are expected to attend prevention education at the Refugee Education and Training Center (3900 S 250 W). They will meet on four different Saturdays, and each meeting will last one hour.

 

Saturday Program (grades 10-12):

The Saturday Program includes college preparation activities (ACT preparation workshops and support with FAFSA, scholarship applications, and college applications), support for healthy development, prevention education, and community involvement; a snack/light meal during program time.

  • Students enrolled in the Saturday program will attend activities at the Refugee Education and Training Center (3900 S 250 W) from 2:30-5:30pm on Saturdays.
  • Parents (one parent/guardian for each student) are expected to attend prevention education at the Refugee Education and Training Center (3900 S 250 W). They will meet on four different Saturdays, and each meeting will last one hour.
